Walthall County Projected Versus Actual Release
MDOC uses the exact public label Tentative Release Date. It is an estimate based on the sentence and information available to MDOC. It is not a scheduled appointment, release order, or certificate that the person left. An actual Walthall County release has already occurred and is documented by a Sheriff release timestamp, an MDOC discharge certificate, or another executed movement record.
A pretrial detainee has no sentence-based date to calculate. Release may depend on bond, a dismissal, a court order, or later case action. Someone serving a local jail term requires the Walthall sentencing court's commitment and credit calculation. A state prisoner requires the MDOC sentence record. The regional Marion/Walthall County Correctional Facility houses state inmates, so its release-date route is MDOC even though its name contains Walthall.

The named example documents the layout only. Its facts should not be applied to another person. MDOC's legacy result also warns that state law can cause release types and dates to differ from the web display.
Walthall County Earned Release Rules
Mississippi Code ยง 47-5-138 supplies the rule often summarized as serving 85 percent. For covered sentences imposed after June 30, 1995, an eligible inmate may earn 4.5 days for each thirty days served through good conduct and performance. The allowance is generally capped at 15 percent of the sentence. The remaining conditional period is earned-release supervision, or ERS, and the person remains under MDOC jurisdiction until expiration.
That shorthand is not a guaranteed date. The law has exceptions and amendments. Current codification includes a provision beginning July 1, 2006 for a person under twenty-one who committed a nonviolent offense, while other terms address revocation credit. MDOC's handbook identifies disqualifiers involving specified habitual, violent, sex, detainer, life-sentence, and program or status circumstances.
Meritorious earned time and trusty time are separate mechanisms with distinct rules and exclusions. Program completion must not be converted by hand into a new date. MDOC Records calculates the official time data. Parole eligibility is also distinct, and earned time does not shorten the minimum statutory parole-eligibility term.
Note: The 85-percent phrase is a broad ceiling framework for eligible state sentences, not a formula for every Walthall County inmate.
Walthall Jail Credit Changes Dates
MDOC's time calculation can include eligible pretrial or county jail credit. The credit must relate to the same cause number, and the handbook says MDOC requests it from the county of conviction. This creates a direct Walthall County link: a missing or corrected jail-credit record can move the state tentative date.
Keep the cause number with the inquiry. Ask the sentencing clerk for the commitment and any amended order. Ask the jail for the custody dates it maintains. A detainer means another agency seeks custody. Departure from the current facility may therefore be a transfer, not community release. The receiving agency must be checked before describing the person as released.
Walthall State Release Processing
MDOC says final processing can take 30 to 45 days. A case manager gives the inmate exact release information, verifies travel plans, and handles final planning. The inmate may request a time sheet and share it. A discharge certificate accompanies release processing and is stronger evidence of the completed event than the public tentative date.
If requested, MDOC may buy in-state bus travel to the destination or the nearest city. It does not purchase out-of-state travel. These are Mississippi state-prison logistics. They are not verified practices at Walthall County Detention Center, which publishes no release-processing schedule, exit door, waiting area, property procedure, or transportation plan.

Request Walthall Release Date Records
MDOC public-record requests must be written and are not accepted by telephone. Include the MDOC number, full name, and cause number. Those details connect the request to any Walthall County jail credit that MDOC sought from the county of conviction.
MDOC policy states that it responds in writing within seven working days and ordinarily produces records within fourteen working days after request or payment unless more time is needed.
