Walthall Detention Release Paths

Walthall County Detention Center is the local custody point for many arrests handled by the Walthall County Sheriff’s Office. A person can leave after posting bond, receiving a court order, completing time served, finishing a local sentence, or obtaining another authorized disposition. Yet the word “release” only states that this booking ended. It does not always mean that all custody ended.

A community exit may follow bond, dismissal, time served, or an unconditional order. A transfer can send the person to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, another county, federal custody, a treatment placement, or another authority. In that case, Walthall custody ends but confinement continues. Read the recorded release authority and destination. Then search the receiving system rather than treating a missing current-roster entry as proof of freedom.

Confirm a Walthall Jail Release

The official Sheriff roster selector separates “Current Inmates” from “48 Hour Release.” Those views answer different questions. Current means the jail presently reports the person as housed. The released tab reports people who left Walthall County Detention Center during its rolling window and may show an exact release time. A person missing from Current but absent from Released has an uncertain status, not a proven release.

1. Choose “48 Hour Release,” then search the first or last name and check spelling or known aliases.
2. Match the booking number, booking date, charges, and photograph before treating the card as the same person.
3. Record the exact release date and time, then open the profile for any added charge or agency detail.
4. Call the facility when the disposition is unclear and ask whether the event was a community exit or an agency transfer.
5. For an older event, request the existing booking and release sheet or release-log entry.

The Sheriff warns that the web roster is a convenience copy and cannot certify accuracy or authenticity. That warning matters when an exact legal event is needed. Preserve the booking number and timestamp, then obtain the agency document. Walthall Detention Center Release Records

The Walthall County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center share the Magnolia Avenue complex. The published main telephone is marked as a 24-hour number, while administrative hours are limited to weekdays. A focused call should give the full name and booking number, if known, and ask for the recorded release time, release type, and any receiving agency. Do not send sensitive identifiers through an unsecured contact channel.

For a written request, ask for an existing booking/release sheet, release-log entry, release date and time, authority or type if maintained and public, transfer destination if public, and booking photograph. Supply the name, aliases, approximate dates, and booking number. Request electronic copies, an estimate before chargeable work, and segregable nonexempt portions if part of the record is withheld. Mississippi law permits actual-cost charges, but no Walthall-specific copy or photo fee was verified.

Walthall Detention Center Release Fields

The Sheriff’s site uses both “Walthall County Detention Center” and “Walthall County Jail.” They are two names for the same current operation. They must not be read as separate facilities or separate release feeds. The live roster points to the Magnolia Avenue location. The old courthouse jail at Ball Avenue is a historic building and is not the current roster site.

The released cards can show a photograph, name, booking number, release date and time, booking date and time, charges, bond, and a profile link. Bond is a field tied to the booking. It does not, by itself, prove that bond caused release. A court order can exist before release processing is complete, too. Compare the executed jail timestamp with the Justice, Municipal, or Circuit Court file that owns the underlying order or disposition.

Walthall Jail Replacement History

A dated local report adds context to the current facility. In December 2013, WDAM described a $2.7 million replacement jail nearing completion. The report said it replaced a 1963 building that no longer met standards and was planned for up to 70 male minimum-security inmates, with computer controls and video surveillance. It also reported continued cooperation with Marion County for some inmates.

Those figures are history, not current operating specifications. No current rated capacity or present intercounty arrangement was verified. The distinction matters because an old directory or article can send a reader to the wrong building or imply that a past inmate-placement plan still applies. The courthouse and its accompanying historic jail date to 1916 and 1917. That Ball Avenue landmark is not a second Walthall release source. Current custody and release checks belong with the Sheriff complex on Magnolia Avenue.

Walthall Detention Release Timing Limits

No official schedule states when Walthall County Detention Center processes releases, where a person exits, where family may wait, how property is returned, or how weekends and holidays affect processing. No local transportation plan was verified. Call before travel and ask only the operational questions the jail can answer. A court order or bond action may precede the physical exit because staff still must verify authority, check for holds, and complete the booking record.

The public feed retains only a rolling 48-hour view. It is not a permanent archive. Within that window, the release timestamp is the clearest local online event field. After the card ages out, the focused records request becomes the normal path. Court files often last longer because they track the case rather than a short roster display.

Walthall Versus Regional Releases

Marion/Walthall County Correctional Facility is separate. It sits in Columbia and serves the MDOC regional system. A person transferred there has left the Walthall booking site, but has not necessarily entered the community. Search MDOC for the new location and tentative date. If the person later leaves state custody, use the MDOC parolee search and MDOC Records rather than expecting the event to remain in the Sheriff’s short county feed.

This naming trap is common. “Walthall County Jail” and “Walthall County Detention Center” are aliases for one current local facility. “Marion/Walthall County Correctional Facility” is the distinct regional state-serving facility. Following the agency that has custody prevents a transfer from being mislabeled as release.
